Who appoints the club coach?
The district governor and lieutenant governor of marketing may appoint the club coach.

Can I be a member of the club that I coach?
You cannot be a member of the club before you are appointed, however, you may join the club after you are appointment is processed at Toastmasters International.

How many coaches can one club have?
Up to two coaches may be appointed to one club.

How do I succeed as a club coach?
There are many ways to coach a club, however, there is only one way to be recognized as a successful club coach.  Toastmasters International will acknowledge the successful completion of your coaching appointment if your coached club becomes Distinguished or better.

How long is my coaching appointment?
Your appointment runs to the end of the current Toastmaster year if the coached club becomes Distinguished or better.  If the club doesn’t become Distinguished in your first year, then your appointment will run to the end of the second Toastmaster year.  For example, if you are appointed in June of 2012 and your club is not Distinguished by June 30 of 2012, then your appointment will run to the end of the next Toastmaster year – June 30, 2013.

Can Toastmaster clubs improve themselves?
Yes, 1746 Toastmaster clubs began the 2009-2010 Toastmaster year with 12 or fewer members.  17% of these clubs became Distinguished or better, by the conclusion of that Toastmaster year.

Should I coach alone or with a co-coach?
That’s your choice.  Clubs with two coaches have a better chance of becoming Distinguished or better.  In 2010-2011, 38% of clubs with two coaches became Distinguished or better, compared to 29% of clubs with only one coach.  In 2009-2010, 37% of clubs with two coaches became Distinguished or better, compared to 17% of clubs with only one coach.

Do I have a better chance of being successful in the first or second year of my appointment?
The numbers suggest that you have an equal chance of succeeding in your first or second year.  In 2010-2011, 35% of the coaches were successful in their first year while 31% were successful in their second year.  In 2009-2010, 27% of the coaches were successful in their first year, while 28% were successful in their second year.

What is my overall chance of success?
There were 654 coaches appointed in 2009-2010, 176 were successful in their first year and 129 were successful in their second year.  That’s a 47% success rate.

Are more club coaches appointed each year?
Yes, there were 654 coaches appointed in 2009-2010 and 822 coaches appointed in 2010-2011.

Are club coaches becoming more successful?
Yes, 279 of the 1026 coaches working in 2009-2010 were successful – that’s 27%.  While 416 of the 1242 coaches working in 2010-2011 were successful – that’s 33%.

What happens one year after the coach successfully completes the appointment?
Sadly, only 42% of the successfully coached clubs in 2009-2010 were Distinguished or better one year after the coach left.
